This website was developed for a student project. “Parents of Exceptional Students Ontario (PESO)” does not exist!

Although the content is accurate as of October 2014, it should be used with other resources.

PESO believes that all children have equal rights to equitable education.  It aims to provide essential information for guardians of exceptional students in Ontario’s public school system.

Accommodation – Accommodations are alternative arrangements for an exceptional student.  They are intended to create a “level playing field” for all students.

Equality – Giving all people the same supports and resources, regardless of their individual needs.

Equity – Giving to everyone according to their needs, so that everyone has equal access to opportunities and resources.

Exceptional – We prefer to use the term “exceptional” rather than special needs, disabled, differently-abled, etc.  These terms sound negative, while “exceptional” is positive and empowering.
